cio_typeWHAT’S OUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?

Orange! Because that’s the colour of orangutans.
The orangutans would love it to become everybody’s favourite colour through AOP’s new educational tool for schools – Colour it Orange.

Colour it Orange is a way for students, teachers and families to make a real difference by raising funds to help our environment – and, of course, to help our orange mates, the orangutans. We call it ‘fun raising’ because it is lots of fun for everyone!

But, as well as being great fun, Colour it Orange is a serious educational tool and teaching aid. It’s focuses on learning about the environment, the wildlife and how important it is to keep an ecological balance. At the moment it is designed for students aged between 5 and 11 but, later on, we hope to develop a second stage for Secondary Students.

FINDING OUT MORE IS EASY!

Daniel Clarke is the inspiration behind Colour it Orange.  Daniel is 14 and suffers with cerebral palsy.  But that doesn’t stand in his way!  In 2007 he said “My hope is that I can make all the Australian School Children aware the orangutan only have 10 to 15 years left in the wild before they will become extinct. We cannot let these special animals become extinct when we can save them now.”   Colour it Orange is a realisation of his dream.

  • Did you know we share 97% of our DNA with orangutans?
  • Did you know orangutan babies stay with their mothers for the first 8 years of their lives.  There is so much to learn! The mother may not have another infant during that time so reproduction is very slow.
  • Did you know orangutans have a opposable thumbs just like we do?
  • Did you know that for  every $55.00 your school raises you can adopt an orphan infant orangutan.

Welcome to AOEP!

AOEP is a conservation advocacy program. By registering you will have access to downloads which you can incorporate into your classroom activities. It is hoped that some of the activities will inspire the children to create their own orangutan activities. Our hope is that once you become aware of the plight of the orangutan, you will be inspired to become part of the solution!
