Pongo Pygmaeus is the botanical name for the Bornean Orangutan. Pongo, the ambassador has had many great adventures as a classroom helper in schools across Australia. In 2012, he is retiring from his adventures so this is our tribute to Pongo.
As a classroom helper, Pongo has excited and encouraged children and teachers all over Australia. He has helped children and classroom helpers to water the vegetable garden or work on the computer. Pongo has even enjoyed going home with school children on weekends. All in all, Pongo has had a very interesting life!
What will Pongo be doing now?
Pongo will be the Education Office Mascot. He will help us here in the Education Team to develop the most interesting and fun programs for school children and teachers across Australia. On behalf of Pongo, we would like to thank all schools that have been involved in the Pongo program.
If you would like to know more the school education and fundraising program for 2012, please email our education team on education@orangutan.org.au
